The Krishi Vigyan Kendra also known as KVK in Satara is a district level Farm Science Center established by the Indian Council of Agricultural Research (ICAR), New Delhi, at Agricultural Development Trust Baramati for speedy transfer of technology to the farmers' fields. KVK in Satara imparts training to the farmers, farmwomen, rural youth and field level extension functionaries by following the principles of "teaching by doing" and "learning by doing".
As a part of its eco tourism activity, Jakson Inns organizes trips to KVK in Satara for its guests. One can choose to either walk in the farm or see the farm on a bullock cart. Refreshments such as fresh tender coconut water & fresh fruits form a part of the tour itinerary. One can visit the main presentation hall where an AV on the property & its achievements is broadcasted, post which a visit to the mini-lab of soil testing & fertilizer making can be visited. As guests walk through the farm they can witness vegetable gardens of Onion, potato, chillies, brinjal, tomato as well as fruit plantations of Papaya, Banana, Chickoo, Pomegranate ad so on.
What is truly amazing is that traditional farming tools have been displayed throughout the property which takes you back in time & makes you relive childhood memories of farming. Highly recommend at the KVK in Satara, are the beautiful Zebra plantations, gladiola & tube rose gardens. Infact the green houses are truly worth a visit. KVK in Satara also has a cattle farm where one can get up close to the animals.
The entire tour to KVK in Satara can be completed within 2.5 hours, however, guests can spend time walking around the property enjoying nature & viewing the water bodies.
